Woman sentenced after indecent liberties plea

On Behalf of | Aug 18, 2016 | Sex Crimes

Being accused of sex crimes is serious business; you could lose your job, have accusations affect your family and friends and have trouble in other aspects of your life. If you didn’t commit a crime, that can be devastating to you; even If you did commit a crime, one thing you can consider is a defense that allows you to take a plea deal or works toward a lesser sentence. One mistake shouldn’t have to affect the rest of your life, and if you and your attorney can work together to make a solid appeal to the court and give a good explanation, you’ll be in a better place to negotiate.

This woman is a good example of someone who was able to get a plea deal. She, a 35-year-old woman from Boones Mill, admitted to having sexual activity with a minor. She will serve six months in jail by taking an indecent liberties plea.

According to the Aug. 17 news, she admitted to taking indecent liberties with a minor while she was in a supervisory or custodial relationship. The victim, a teenager, had been staying at her home when the incident took place. No other information on the exact incident was released

Police did report that the victim had consented to the activities, but due to age, the teen was too young to consent. Following the 35-year-old woman’s arrest, she took a plea that resulted in a 20-year sentence; most of that time will be suspended after she spends six months in jail. Once she’s released, she will also spend five years on probation to satisfy the court.
