Woman arrested after allegedly driving while intoxicated

On Behalf of | Aug 30, 2017 | Drunk Driving

When you drive with children in your vehicle, you need to be sober and attentive. They’re important, and they add a layer of difficulty if you get stopped for violating the law. If you’re not careful, you can be accused of endangering your children as well as accused of a DUI. That’s what’s happening in this case out of Virginia.

A woman accused of driving while intoxicated has been arrested following a collision in Woodbridge. According to the story from Aug. 29, the woman had her children in her vehicle at the time of the crash.

The woman allegedly had an open container of alcohol in her lap when she crashed into two parked vehicles on Colby Drive. The 34-year-old woman has been charged with three felony counts for child neglect, one count for driving with an open container, one count for driving under the influence (a second offense within five years) and one count for reckless driving.

The police responded to the incident when the crash was reported at around 9:00 a.m. They reported smelling alcohol on the woman’s breath. They arrested her and discovered her three children, a 5-year-old, 8-year-old and 10-year-old, sitting inside. They were transferred to the care of a family member.

If you’re accused of driving drunk, it’s important to defend yourself as soon as possible, especially if your children are involved in the case. There are times when you can defend yourself and your actions, so you face lesser penalties and have a better chance of returning to your normal life sooner and without lasting repercussions.
