Virginia man accused of propositioning tenants for sex

On Behalf of | May 23, 2014 | Criminal Defense

According to reports, police arrested a north Virginia man based on allegations from two tenants. The tenants claim that the man propositioned them for sex in lieu of rent payments. The man, who is 71 years old, was arrested May 20 around 6 p.m.

Reports indicate that the man is the landlord for a number of townhouses. One tenant claims she has been hiding from the landlord since she moved into the townhouse. According to the woman, the man made several advances toward her. On May 16, the man was coming to collect rent from the woman. To catch him making an advance, she put her cell phone on video record.

According to the woman, the video records the man following her into the bathroom. He allegedly would not talk about the woman’s rent situation. Instead, the woman says he tried to pull up her nightgown and asked for sex.

Another woman said the landlord made advances in front of her 3-year-old child. She said the advances came whenever the rent was due to be paid or late.

According to reports, the man was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual battery, attempted rape, attempt to defile, abduction and extortion of money for immoral purposes. When faced with a number of charges and evidence, such as a video recording, defendants are not without options. Some options for criminal defense could include discrediting witnesses and evidence such as videos by using additional facts. In other cases, defendants may seek to make a plea that would reduce or remove some of the charges, resulting in reduced sentencing.
