DUIs impact drivers from all walks of life: What you need to know

On Behalf of | Mar 7, 2018 | Drunk Driving

DUIs are clearly dangerous. Everyone is aware that drunk driving can kill, and most people know that driving when they’re intoxicated makes them react more slowly and less likely to respond to hazards in the roadway. Despite that, people do still get behind the wheel when they’re intoxicated. These individuals put themselves and others at risk of being in a serious crash.

There are many reasons that you should avoid drinking and driving. Here are a few important facts that you should know about DUIs.

Teens are at risk of dying in DUI crashes

Did you know that around eight teens die daily as a result of DUI-related crashes? Combined with little experience behind the wheel, distractions and other factors, alcohol can make even a decent driver into a potentially deadly one.

Guys are more likely to drink and drive

It’s true that males are more likely to drink and drive than females. That could be due to men being more likely to drive in more circumstances, or it might be a result of more males drinking when they’re hanging out. Whatever the reason, it’s men who are likely to be intoxicated moreso than women.

Four out of 10 crashes resulting in death can be attributed to alcohol

Sadly, around four out of every 10 crashes resulting in fatalities has alcohol playing a role as one of the factors that led to the collision.

Alcohol is dangerous when combined with driving and distractions. If you’re caught drinking and driving, be prepared to defend yourself. The allegations are serious and can have lasting repercussions.
